Rafting on the Dniester River
The Dniester River stretches from the Carpathian Mountains to the Black Sea and it is a perfect place for water adventures. The length of the main waterway of Western Ukraine is 1,362 km. The Dniester is considered to be one of the most attractive areas for rafting in Ukraine. It is a calm river with few rapid and rocky sections, so rafting here does not require special training. Rafting on the Dniester is a safe, simple and pleasant activity – all you need is standard rafting equipment, which is usually provided by tour organizers. While travelling along your route, you will also have a chance to see many old historical landmarks on the banks of the Dniester – castles, palaces and parks. You can admire them from the boat or make a stop and take a closer look.
Spring is the best time for rafting on the Dniester – during this period the snow melts in the Carpathians, ensuring a powerful flow. The increased flow of water makes it possible to travel through rocky areas that are impassable in summer. If you want to go rafting on the Dniester in the summertime, you should start from Sambir town. To begin your journey further up the river, you will have to wait for some heavy rainfall to increase the water level by 10–15 cm.
Tourists will enjoy not only floating in a boat, but also relaxing evenings around the campfire, sleeping in tents and swimming in the calm river. Those who love fishing are also in luck here: the Dniester is rich in different kinds of fish such as pikeperch, catfish, carp, pike and many others. In addition, you can find strawberries, cherries, and mushrooms growing in the woods there, so your dinner promises to be absolutely delicious. 1.What is NOT true about the Dniester River?
