Have you ever heard of Guinness World Records? It is a reference book about the most amazing record holders and their stories (если много владельцев рекордов, то и их истории тоже нужно ставить во множественное число: -y меняется на -i и добавляется окончание -es): from the tallest sandcastle to the fastest runner in the world. In 1951, Sir Hugh Beaver (who at that time worked for the Guinness Brewery) was (был на вечеринке, прошедшая форма глагола to be с местоимением he — was) at a party and argued with one of the guests. They wanted to know which bird in Europe was the fastest. (Хотели узнать самую быструю птицу, то есть превосходная степень прилагательного, где к прилагательному добавляется окончание -est). However, they coudn’t (не могли найти ответ, прошедшая форма глагола can в отрицании — couldn’t) find the answer. Sir Hugh thought there were a lot of similar questions, and a book with the answers would be popular. He began to work and in 1955 published (опубликовал — в прошедшем времени мы добавляем правильному глаголу окончание -ed) the first (первую, а не единственную книгу — the first) book of world records.
