In 1869 it receives its current name — Khreshchatyk.  At the beginning of the 20th century, it became the shopping centre of the city.  Nowadays, the street becomes twice widened and all the buildings are built after the same architectural design.  
  A lot of people go to Khreshchatyk every day. Khreshchatyk looks especially beautiful in spring. Chestnut trees are in blossom every spring. Kyivans sit on the benches at the fountains. Tourists like the main street of Kyiv very much.
