Exercise 1. Read the text. Are the sentences true (T) or False (F).
Buying and selling on YouBuy One way to sell something is to use YouBuy. YouBuy is a popular shopping website where people can buy and sell most things after they have registered with it. When someone is selling something, YouBuy gives them instructions on how to put information on the website and how much money the seller pays them. It is not expensive, it is not very difficult to do and sometimes it does not take very long to sell things. Lots of people look on YouBuy every day. One day my mother put a wool jumper and a pair of leather boots on YouBuy and eleven people wrote to ask her about the boots. She sold them to the person who wanted to give her the most money. But, you don’t always get a lot of money for your things. My older brother put his guitar on YouBuy and nobody wanted to pay more than £10 pounds for it. He decides not to sell it. Sometimes YouBuy is brilliant for buying things and my dad always uses if for sports things. My mum hates using YouBuy for clothes and my brother doesn’t like to buy computer things on it. My aunt really hates YouBuy because she always sees something she likes but she never has any money to spend. But most people love it and think it’s a great way to buy, see and save money.
1. The writer thinks YouBuy isn’t a popular shopping website.
2. The writer’s mother sold some leather shoes on YouBuy.
3. The writer’s brother didn’t sell his guitar on YouBuy.
4. The waiter’s mum hates buying clothes on YouBuy.
5. The writer’s aunt likes using YouBuy.

№1. Online services are replacing traditional ones, although the process is taking longer than it (1) to do. These days we can shop, contact friends, organize our holidays and even get rid of an old sofa without (2) our living rooms.
Most of our business and communication nowadays is (3) online, but what we (4) not realize is that there’s a downside to this trend. For instance, hundreds of post offices around Britain (5) closed, and it seems that traditional shopping malls might (6) as well due to the increase in online shopping.
However, online shopping isn’t without its problems. For instance, its impossible to try on (7) item of clothing online, and sizes vary so much from brand to brand that you never know quite what you (8). Some online shops often provide misleading infommation about their products to attract (9) customers. We would like to believe what the sellers tell us, but we may need to do more research before buying a product. In other words, convenience comes at a price, but it seems it’s a price (10) we are willing to pay.

№2. Social networking has changed the way we communicate with each other. We can now connect with people (1) over the world in an instant. But is it as good as so many people seem to think it is?
Personally speaking, I’ve got nothing (2) social networking sites if people use them responsibly.
However, when people share too much information about themselves, you may end up with serious privacy (3).
This is especially true for younger users, (4) pre-teens, who may reveal more than they should. They may often do this (5) realizing that everyone can see what they’ve posted online — not just their friends.
Then, there’s the whole question of cyber bulying — where people use the sites to spread damaging (6) about someone. That (7) of behaviour is completely unacceptable. Something should really be (8) about this. I know that sites (9) you to block someone who behaves inappropriately, but is this enough? If I was a parent, I would do whatever it took
to ensure my child’s online (10).

In the past, people went to markets to buy some food, clothes and other things. Today, there is a huge variety of shops where all of this is done. If you need some meat, go to the butcher’s. If you want some fish, then a fishmonger’s is the place for you. Bread products and sweets are offered by bakeries and sweet shops. A greengrocer’s is where you can get fresh fruit and vegetables, whereas milk and cream are sold at a dairy.
However, a lot of people prefer supermarkets because all of the products listed above are there. In other words, instead of visiting different separate shops, you can get everything you need at a supermarket. To make it easier for customers, there are trolleys where you can put all of the goods you are going to buy. At the exit everything is paid to the cashier. One of the most famous supermarkets in Great Britain is Sainsbury’s. The prices there are a bit high, so it is usually visited by rich people who go shopping once a week or even once a month. There is also Tesco — a chain of cheaper supermarkets around the world where you can get anything you want and pay less.Apart from food, we need clothes, accessories, technology items, books, toys, cleaning products and on. Not all of this is present at the supermarket. That why streets are full of clothes shops, technology shop bookshops, etc. Some people enjoy walking and visitin all of them separately, whereas others like it when everything is in one place. So, they go to huge shoppin centres — malls.
Finally, thanks to today’s progress in technology, we can order a lot of things online, by using various shopping websites. On the one hand, some people like this because they do not want to spend their time going anywhere, especially if they are very busy or just lazy. On the other hand, there are those who like communicating with real people and checking if the things which they are buying are okay. Plus, if we need to buy some clothes or shoes for ourselves or for someone else, we need to make sure if the size is good. In a real shop there are some fitting rooms where you can try All in all, it is your choice —
everything on, whereas online there is no such place. modern shopping or traditional shopping.

The Boy and the Door
There was a small shop in a little street in an old town. In the shop there were beautiful things made of silver and gold. The small shop had a door that opened on the little street. The shopkeeper was standing at the open door.
“Come and buy! Come and buy!” called the shopkeeper. “Come into my shop and see all the beautiful things!” again he called. “Come in!
I shall show you beautiful things made of silver and gold.”
One day the shopkeeper had to go away to the king’s palace. The king wanted a beautiful gold ring and a silver cup from the shop. The shopkeeper called the boy who work for him. “I’m going to the king’s palace,” he said. “You must stay here. Do not leave the door of the shop whatever happens. Do you understand?”
“Yes, I understand,” said the boy.
The shopkeeper went away, and soon he came to the king’s palace. He gave the king, the ring and the cup. Then he went home. Soon he was back at his shop. He stopped and looked up in astonishment. “What is this?” he cried. “Why are so many people going into my shop?” Then the shopkeeper saw that the door of the shop was gone and so was the boy who work for him.
Just then, the shopkeeper saw the boy. He was in the street near the shop. The boy had the shop door on his back. He was standing in the square looking at some men who were doing tricks.
The shopkeeper ran to the boy. “I told you not to leave my shop,” he cried.
“No,” said the boy. “You told me not to leave the door. I did just as you said. I did not leave the door. I have the door here with me.”

TASK. Read the text
On a daily basis we used to use various means of transport to get from one place to another one: trams, cars, buses, planes, underground and other transportation means.
In times gone by, people had to go from one city to another for weeks and even months to get to the destination place, because they used horses, boats or their own feet to travel. Nowadays everything is changed and men cross the country or waters in some hours.
The most rapid mean of transport is travelling by plane. Other people prefer car, train or bus, because they are cheaper and it is possible to enjoy passing villages, forests and fields through windows.
Life in a big city makes people be depended on transport, especially if they live in the countryside. Sometimes people have to change two or more transportation means (metro, suburban train, bus, share taxi, tramway, etc.) to get to a workplace or come back home after hard working day. The choice of the transport facilities depends on many factors: a financial ability, the distance between workplace and home place, time, comfort and other things. Most people prefer to get a car, because today it helps to be a little more independent from public transport.
Write TRUE or FALSE
1)Nowadays everything is changed and men cross the country or waters in some hours.

3)The most rapid mean of transport is travelling by airplane.
4)Sometimes people have not to change two or more transportation means
